In collaboration with Prof. Carlo Ratti (MIT), I explore a new generation of urban-scale applications that tap the real-time data our cities generate, to make our cities more open, efficient and sustainable.
Under the supervision of Prof. Mattern (ETH Zurich), my Ph.D. research explores the use of Web standards (HTTP/XML/RSS) for interacting with embedded devices. This fosters fast prototyping of massively scalable, hybrid applications on top of networks of heterogeneous devices.
Half of my PhD research was done at SAP Research where I explored the integration of shop-floor machines in a factory with enterprise applications (ERP Systems, SCM, etc) using lightweight Web architectures.
In collaboration with Prof. Taylor (UCLA) and Prof. Estrin (UCLA), I have used sensor networks for acoustic source detection, localization, and recognition to help biologists to analyze animal behavior in natural environments.
In collaboration with Prof. Cheng (TUM) at ATR, I have explored audio-visual sensory-motor coordination for reflex mechanism on a life-size humanoid robot.
In collaboration with Prof. Ijspeert (EPFL) and Dr. Righetti (USC), I have explored new associative memory models based on coupled non-linear oscillators.
